Neighbourhood Helpers

This week we will be welcoming some special guests. We have two police officers visiting our playschool. They will be speaking with the children about safety in our homes and our neighbourhood.

As the holidays are fast approaching, we are beginning our holiday concert rehearsals this week. We encourage parents and children to practice songs at home. If you would like a copy of the words, please ask Mrs. Short or Ms. Yearwood.

Old MacDonald's Farm

This week we have a special guest. A librarian from the public library will be visiting our classroom and sharing a special story and circle time all about farm animals. We hope that the children enjoy this experience and that it sparks their interest in literacy.

Week 3 - I Am Thankful For...

This week the children will be learning all about the celebration of Thanksgiving. Friday they will be constructing a turkey craft. The children will also be continuing to work on their letter scrapbooks and take a trip to the library this week. Please note that next week the schedule for playschool is changed due to the long weekend.

Week 2 - Now I know my ABC's

Welcome Back!

This week the children will be learning all about their ABC's. The children will begin their alphabet books this week. This book will be part of our program for the remainder of the school year. The children will also be beginning to take trips to the library. Each week they will be permitted to take out a book which is to be returned each Friday.

Playschool will be accepting registration for September 2009 on Wednesday, June 3, 2009. If you are interested or have any question please feel free to stop by Rm. 111 - located inside John Fraser Secondary School between 8:30 - 2:30 or call (905) 858-5910 ext. 162.

Pre-Registration Now Taking Place!

Parents,

Now is the time to register your child for the next school year. Our program will begin running September 21, 2009. Limited space is available. In order to ensure your child has a spot, please register and provide your $25.00 registration fee. We have many fun themes planned for the next session. Special guests and events have been booked including a visit from our Erin Meadows Librarian who performs special story times, interactive songs and activities as well as puppetry.

IMPORTANT - FYI

Dear Parents,

Due to an upcoming P.D. Day and the Victoria Day long weekend, Playful Pals will be changing its schedule for the week of May 11th. Playschool will run on Tuesday May 12, Wednesday May 13 and Thursday May 14 - sorry for any inconvenience.

Also - graduation is fast approaching. The graduation will take place on Thursday May 21 this year. The morning graduation will run from 9:30 - 10:30 and the afternoon graduation will run from 1:00 - 2:00.

Wheels, Wings & Moving Things

Cars, planes, trains, buses, trucks and many more. This week the children will be learning about all different forms of transportation. The teachers of the week have chosen many fun stories and have designed many creative crafts. The crafts this week will help develop the child's fine motor skills, recognition of the different forms of transportation and their creativity. We hope the children enjoy!

If parents have extra empty Kleenex boxes around the house, please bring them in - we will require them for one of our crafts.

Get The Beat

This week the children will be learning all about music. They will be learning about the different types of instruments and their groupings, the beat of the music, and they will even have an opportunity to play their own musical instrument. We have many creative crafts planned this week - we hope you enjoy!

Long Weekend

Dear Parents,

Please be aware that due to the Easter holiday weekend, Playful Pals will not be open Friday April 10 or Monday April 13. We will resume our normal schedule Wednesday April 15. Thank-you for your understanding.

Week 6 - Bunnies and Baskets

We have many fun activities planned this week. We have an egg hunt game (plastic eggs NOT chocolate) planned and many fun crafts that involve the children's fine motor skills and creativity.

Week 5 - Friends of the Forest

This week the children will be learning all about the animals found in a forest. We have many fun surprises including one very special treat. This week, we will be viewing small segments of the Disney classic - Bambie. The movie reinforces the theme and teaches the children about the various animals and their habitats. We also have many fun games, songs and crafts planned.

Week 4 - Family Matters

This week the children will be learning all about different types of families and what families do together. We encourage parents to discuss who is a member of your family, as we will be discussing this with your children.

The crafts and games the children will be playing help develop their fine motor skills and hand eye co-ordination.

Parents, please be aware that Playful Pals is not permitted to park in the area designated "Daycare Parking". These spots are reserved for the parents of the children who attend PLASP. Playful Pals is also not permitted to park in the area designated "Staff Parking". These spots are reserved for office and secretarial staff.

Please park in the visitor parking lots around the school. If you need assistance, please ask Mrs. Short or Ms. Whitford.

Welcome Back

Welcome Back Little Buddies and Parents!

This is our first week back at playschool. Mrs. Short, Ms. Whitford and the Big Friends at Playful Pals are looking forward to meeting all of our new Little Friends. This week we will be learning all about numbers. Some of the activities include Chicka Chicka 1-2-3, and our Number and Letter Scrapbooks.

We hope you all enjoy your first week at playschool, and we look forward to many more.
